Black and White Rojak? Many have tried Black Rojak, but have you heard of the existence of White Rojak?
Hojiak Rojak differentiates themselves from other stores with their ingredients, sauce and generous portions. Their Rojak is made of cucumbers, turnips, pineapple, bean sprouts, taupok and youtiao. The normal Rojaks does not have bean sprouts in them.
Just like any other Black Rojak, Hojiak’s Black Rojak is made of Shrimp Paste with tasty grated peanuts scattered all over.
However, what stands out is their White Rojak served with Sour Plum Paste and grated peanuts at the side. The Sour Plum Sauce is slightly sweet yet sour, giving a very refreshing taste. If you do not like the strong smell from the Shrimp Paste, this may be a good alternative. It is also a healthier option.
At a very reasonable price of $2.50, Hojiak Rojak will be sure to not short change you. Their serving is ever too generous for the price you are paying.
As Michael Jackson once sang, it doesn’t matter if you are black or white, if it’s good, you will enjoy it. Will White Rojak be a uniquely Singaporean dish? Try it and decide for yourself.
